I spent most of the afternoon trying to determine how to get rid of the big black borders surrounding all of the 720 x 480 videos I have uploaded to YouTube.
I've been working in Sony Vegas, and I'm not really a video guy, so I've had my share of struggles--the most notable of which was when I started feeling the compulsion to throw things at my monitor.
Anyway, here's the deal. Video cameras like my Canon FS200 output 720 x 480 unless you turn off the widescreen setting and use 640 x 480. All of this is pretty much fine either way; however, when you upload the file it either squishes vertically or gets a big black border around it.
Point being: for the 500 variations I tried, it all came down to inserting one silly little line of type in the video tags, on YouTube. That's it. Insert this: yt:crop=16:9 and everything's nice again.
He has other tips in the video. I'd like to buy this fellow a beer or many.
